Masquerade — the immersive reimagining of The Phantom of the Opera — has officially opened in New York City to sold-out audiences.
Directed by Diane Paulus from a concept by Randy Weiner, the show transforms the former Lee’s Art Shop on West 57th Street into a multi-level Paris Opera House.
Production photography reveals Formichetti’s sculptural masks, Emilio Sosa’s opulent costumes, and a chandelier glittering with 30,000 crystals.
Critics have praised the production’s ambition and design, with Time Out describing the production as “a staggering feat of coordination.” With its mix of spectacle, intimacy, and reinvention, Masquerade is already among the city’s most talked-about theatrical events.
